Finding “the Power of Now” in the Space Between Your Thoughts
Every time you create a gap in the stream of mind, the light of your consciousness grows stronger – Eckhart Tolle - The Power of Now
The above passage may seem like something that “Confucius said,” but they are the mind/spirit expanding words of modern day guru, Eckhart Tolle.
And it means exactly what it says—whenever you stop thought, even for a moment, your consciousness rises. You become enlightened, a little at a time, with each silent moment.
If you don’t believe Eckhart Tolle, or me, try it for yourself.
Stop all thoughts right now.
Whether you’re in the middle of a project at work, an argument with your spouse, or cooking dinner—STOP your activity.
Then stop all thought.
You will automatically feel peaceful. You’ll find that this brief stillness from the inner chatter feels wonderful. You feel “above” any earthly concerns. You will feel at home, possibly for the first time, in this inner sanctuary of a “stilled mind.” When you allow your thoughts to reenter, you may be jolted by the realization of how noisy your mind is. You may even miss that brief moment of total bliss that you experienced in your “thoughtless” state and want to return to it.
So return.
Again and again.
Throughout the day, go into the space between your thoughts as often as you can. Try to extend those moments when you can.
You don’t have to go into a formal meditation session to experience the benefits of a silent mind. You can go about your day and continuously return to your inner sanctuary—any time, any place.
I have begun doing this daily, and I am amazed at how calm I suddenly feel. Try it and let me know how you feel.
