Effects of the July 22 Solar Eclipse in Cancer—Through the Signs
On July 22, 2009, there will be a powerful total solar eclipse in Cancer. This eclipse will be the longest total solar eclipse of this century—approximately 6 minutes and 39 seconds—and will be visible to a great amount of people on earth.
Adding to the power and the uniqueness of this eclipse is the fact that it occurs on the second New Moon in Cancer (it’s very rare to have a sign host two New Moons in the same year), it is in Cancer (which is ruled by the Moon), and it is within 1 degree of a conjunction with the Nodes of the Moon.
The latter means, according to astrologer Brenda Black, that the effects of this total solar eclipse will last for a whopping seven years!
Yesterday, I covered what Aries and Taurus can expect from this year’s total solar eclipse in Cancer. I continue, now, with a brief explanation of what Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, and Libra can explect this year’s total solar eclipse in Cancer. Read the description for both your sun sign and your rising sign (if you know it.) There is much more to astrology, and to eclipse points, than this summary through the signs (of course) but this should give you a glimpse into the upcoming effects of this unique total solar eclipse in Cancer.
Part II
Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, and Libra
Gemini—If you are a Gemini, or have a Gemini rising, the total solar eclipse in Cancer falls in your second house of money and possessions. A big change is brewing in your money sector. Your 401K may take a big nosedive. Alternatively, you may not be able to sell that prized Persian rug for anywhere close to its real value.
But…
Have you ever heard of the phrase “When God closes a door, he opens a window?” This epitomizes the behavior of solar eclipses—they signal both endings and new beginnings.
So…
Your 401K may take a nosedive, which forces you to take a good, hard look at your investment portfolio. You make some changes here and there the—voila—you make a KILLING in the stock market. See what I mean?
Cancer—If you are a Cancer, or have a Cancer rising, the total solar eclipse in Cancer will rock your world. It falls in your first house of self. Since you cannot separate “yourself” from any area of your life, (wherever you go, there you are) you will likely feel this solar eclipse in all areas of your life. You may decide to leave a relationship that is no longer working for you. (The suddenness with which your make this decision, or have it made for you, could shock you.) You may decide to get a complete beauty makeover, be forced to sell your house, or lose your beloved dog.
But…
Have you ever heard of the phrase “When God closes a door, he opens a window?” This epitomizes the behavior of solar eclipses—they signal both endings and new beginnings.
So…
You partner may suddenly decide to leave you and your relationship behind, and you are devastated. But before your tears are totally dry, you run into your very first boyfriend—at one time, the love of your life—and find out that his wife or girlfriend just left him too. What a coincidence. See what I mean?
Leo—If you are a Leo, or have a Leo rising, the total solar eclipse in Cancer will impact your twelfth house of hidden enemies, secrets, and seclusion. You might be hospitalized for a physical or (especially) a mental condition. A secret you have kept hidden for ages may suddenly explode out of its hiding place for the entire world to see. You may be forced into seclusion for some reason.
But…
Have you ever heard of the phrase “When God closes a door, he opens a window?” This epitomizes the behavior of solar eclipses—they signal both endings and new beginnings.
So…
You may be hospitalized for a minor operation. During the operation, however, the doctor accidentally finds out that you have a much more serious illness. Your trip to the hospital (a negative event) turns into a positive event when your doctor is able to catch, and treat, this condition early—and save your life. See what I mean?
Virgo—If you are a Virgo, or you have a Virgo rising, the total solar eclipse in Cancer will impact your 11th house of friends, hopes, and wishes. You may have a sudden falling out with a friend, or a friend may develop an illness. Your hopes and wishes may be kicked aside by some circumstances beyond your control.
But…
Have you ever heard of the phrase “When God closes a door, he opens a window?” This epitomizes the behavior of solar eclipses—they signal both endings and new beginnings.
So…
You may have a falling out with your best friend. After your fight, you decide to try to make amends. You go to your friend’s house, and overhear a private conversation between your friend and his girlfriend. You find out that your “friend” was no friend at all, and had been planning to set you up for investment fraud. You turn your friend into the police, saving yourself from prison and saving a lot of grateful investors a lot of money. These investors become your friends and make your dream of owning your own business a reality. See what I mean?
Libra—If you are a Libra, or you have a Libra rising, the total solar eclipse in Cancer will impact your tenth house of career and public standing. You may suffer the fallout of reorganization at work and lose your job. You may be involved in some kind of a public scandal, your reputation totally smeared.
But…
Have you ever heard of the phrase “When God closes a door, he opens a window?” This epitomizes the behavior of solar eclipses—they signal both endings and new beginnings.
So…
A reorganization at work cost you your job. But, as a total solar eclipse in your tenth house would have it, the day after your were laid off, you see an intriguing job on an online job board. You apply for the job (which would not have happened had you not lost your old job) and you end up in a cushy, dream job. See what I mean?
I conclude this series tomorrow, with what the effects of the total eclipse in Cancer will mean for Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.

Born Sept. 28th, 1983, I have Sun in Libra in 4th House, Cancer in Ascendant and Capricorn in 7th house, and Aries in Midheaven 10th house. So you can see I got all cardinal signs located in those houses…so will the eclipse basically have a dramatic change in each Cardinal signs and houses I just listed? If there’s more info. you could provide, I’d love to hear them. Thanks!
Yes, the eclipse will effect each of those houses that you mentioned. Not only are those all Cardinal signs (like Cancer) but those cardinal signs are located on angles of the chart which are additional power points. This is one of the reasons that Cancers, and those with Cancer rising, will be affected so strongly.
The exact effect this will have depends on any planets that may be in those houses.
Incidentally, I also have a Cancer rising and Capricorn ruling my 7th house and Aries on my Midheaven (though I am a Sagittarius and not a Libra), so I, too, expect quite dramatic results.
I think that, with your Sun also being a Cardinal sign, it should be even more dramatic for you.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
